A 16-year-old boy accused of trying to steal Nike sneakers from an Ohio mall shopper who fatally shot another teen who was with him is facing criminal charges.

Montgomery County prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says the boy has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and robbery. A defense attorney says the boy is innocent.

The case stems from a Dec. 20 shooting outside the Dayton Mall. Miami Township police say three boys accosted two shoppers leaving the mall after buying limited-edition Air Jordan sneakers. Authorities say one teen showed a gun and a shopper who had a concealed-weapons permit fatally shot him.

The shopper was determined to have acted in self-defense and was cleared of felony criminal charges.

A 17-year-old who was with the other boys was released without charges.
