Pa. woman, 76, kills self after police standoff

Authorities say a 76-year-old Pennsylvania woman being served an order to stay away from her husband kept police at bay for two hours, then set her house on fire and shot herself to death.

Police in southwestern Pennsylvania's Peters Township say the standoff began Thursday afternoon when officers tried to serve Claire Rush with a protection from abuse order obtained by her husband. She locked the doors and eventually set the house on fire. When officers saw the fire, they rushed into the house and found Rush in her garage with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Rush was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital where she died.

No other injuries were reported.
