GREENWICH, Conn. -- A Polish-born New York socialite has been arrested and charged with stealing a pricey scarf from a shop in Connecticut.

Thirty-eight-year-old Beata Boman of Manhattan, a self-described former model and fashion designer, was arrested Tuesday afternoon outside the store in posh Greenwich.

Police say she acknowledged taking the scarf, which had a price tag of $11,500, and told them she had planned to return it.

Boman made news in Britain in August 2008 when photographs were published in the Daily Mail of her with Prince Andrew in St. Tropez.

Boman could not immediately be reached for comment. There was no listing for her in New York.

She was released after posting a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to make her first appearance in Superior Court in Stamford on Monday.
