NEW CITY, N.Y. – A man has admitted he crashed a powerboat on the Hudson River in New York, killing a bride-to-be two weeks before her wedding. Her fiance's best man also was killed.
The Rockland County district attorney's office says Jojo John pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of second-degree vehicular manslaughter. He is to be sentenced to two years in jail.
John had been charged with 18 counts, including operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If convicted, he could have been sentenced to 15 years.
Prosecutors said John had nearly twice the legal level of alcohol in his system when the boat crashed into a barge in July.
John's attorney had asserted that the crash was caused by a lack of lighting on the barge.
