A man has died on Monday after getting shot at the Hawaii state capitol following a violent altercation with a police officer.

Police said a man in his 20s was shot after he got into a confrontation with law enforcement officials, though the exact reason what prompted the incident remains unclear and still under investigation.

According to Hawaii News Now, the man choked a sheriff’s deputy, prompting him to open the fire.

The man was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after the shooting.

Another man on the scene has reportedly been taken to the hospital at his request, but his condition remains stable.
