DENVER – The judge in the Colorado theater shootings case has denied a dozen defense motions asking that prosecutors and police turn over a raft of documents including prosecution witnesses' mental health records.
The judge on Friday granted one defense request asking for information on the credibility of prosecution witnesses. The judge noted prosecutors didn't submit any arguments opposing that motion.
James Holmes is charged with killing 12 people and injuring 70 in a suburban Denver movie theater in July 2012. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Defense motions the judge rejected included one for tapes of law enforcement communications on the day of the shootings.
Prosecutors and the defense have filed a total of more than 180 motions, with more on the way.
