26 exotic birds killed in Daytona Beach house fire
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Authorities say 26 exotic birds died in a weekend fire at a home in Daytona Beach.
Firefighters reported finding 30 birds and one turtle inside a single-story home on Sunday. Four birds were rescued and taken to an emergency veterinarian clinic, but the others died from smoke inhalation. It wasn't clear what happened to the turtle.
Fire officials say the birds were valued at between $10,000 and $15,000.
Officials say no one was home when firefighters arrived. Authorities say the cause is believed to be a faulty electrical outlet.
No human injuries were reported.
