ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – Fire officials in suburban Chicago say an explosion at an Arlington Heights factory killed one person and sent 10 others to hospitals.
Arlington Heights Fire Chief Glenn Ericksen confirms one person was killed Tuesday morning in the explosion at Arens Controls. That person's name isn't being released.
Erickson says seven of the company's workers and three police officers were taken to hospitals with respiratory problems, which aren't considered life-threatening. Five others also were treated at the scene.
There's no visible damage to the outside of the building. Dozens of people were led out of the structure, and emergency workers were ventilating the building.
Battalion Commander Tom Zerfass says it isn't yet clear what caused the blast.
