Saad scores winner as Blackhawks slip by Habs

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Saad scored the winning goal with 27 seconds to play to lift the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Friday.

Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist while Ben Smith and Michal Rozsival also scored for the Blackhawks, who have won five straight. Antti Raanta turned away 38 shots in the win.

"You don't really want it to go that way, where you have to come up with big third periods, but we're finding ways to win games," Smith said. "You have to be happy about that. It's definitely something to work on there in the second [periods], finding ways to stay consistent in our game. It's always nice to come back in the third though."

Brendan Gallagher had a goal and an assist while Sergei Gonchar and P.K. Subban also scored for the Canadiens, who have lost five of their last six games. Carey Price allowed all four goals on 36 shots.

"Going into the third with a lead against this team in this building obviously says a lot, but there's a reason why they're one of the best in the League every year," Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty said.

With time winding down, Patrick Kane threw a shot on net that was blocked but trickled to the front. Andrei Markov tried to clear the puck, but Saad was there to grab the bouncing puck and sweep it in for the win.

The first goal of the game went to the Blackhawks, as a rush down the other end saw Bryan Bickell fire a pass from the left wing to the right where Rozsival beat Price to the glove side 2:13 in.

It was a 2-0 game for Chicago with 1:44 to play in the second when Smith banged in a rebound down low, but Montreal got one back 26 seconds later as Gallagher's one-timer from the slot went into the left corner of the net.

The Canadiens evened the game at 7:58 of the second after Gonchar's slap shot from the right boards found the back of the net.

Montreal took its first lead of the game with a power-play goal at 17:22 of the second after Subban's one-timer from the top of the left circle sailed in.

Chicago tied the contest at 4:18 of the third with a power-play goal of its own, as Toews pushed the puck in from the right side for his 11th of the season.
