The Colorado Rockies on Saturday activated starting pitcher Jeff Francis from the 15-day disabled list and designated pitcher Jon Garland for assignment.

Francis had gone 2-3 with a 6.00 earned run average in eight starts before a left groin strain sidelined him in mid-May.

The 32-year-old British Columbia native will start Saturday's home contest against the San Diego Padres.

Garland was 4-6 with a 5.82 ERA in 12 starts for the Rockies this year. He sat out all of 2012 with shoulder issues.
