(SportsNetwork.com) - The New England Patriots and star cornerback Darrelle Revis have reportedly agreed to a one-year, $12 million deal.
ESPN.com reported Wednesday night that Revis -- released just hours earlier by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- must still pass a physical and sign the contract.
Revis, a five-time Pro Bowler long seen as one of the best corners in the NFL, was with the Bucs less than a year after being acquired from the Jets in a trade last April.
The Bucs saved $16 million in salary cap space by cutting Revis loose and the Patriots replaced a key piece they lost after the start of NFL free agency on Wednesday.
Pro Bowl corner Aqib Talib signed a six-year contract with the Denver Broncos worth a reported $57 million after spending more than a season in New England.
Revis tore his ACL in Week 3 of the 2012 season, his last with the Jets. He had two interceptions, 11 passed defensed and 50 tackles as Tampa Bay went 4-12 this past season.
"Darrelle showed a lot of heart last year as he worked extremely hard to get himself back on the field following his knee injury sustained the previous season," Bucs general manager Jason Licht said.
Licht said you never like to lose a good player but it was in the best interests of the team to let Revis go.
