Loudoun County, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Redskins placed the franchise tag on linebacker Brian Orakpo, the team announced Monday.
Orakpo earned his third Pro Bowl selection after leading the team with 10 sacks last season. He also amassed 70 tackles and recorded his first career interception while starting 15 games. He missed only the season finale with a groin injury.
In 2012, Orakpo suffered a torn pectoral muscle in a Week 2 loss at St. Louis and missed the rest of the season.
Orakpo, 27, has compiled 283 tackles and 39 1/2 sacks in 64 career games with the Redskins, who selected the Texas product in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
