Cincinnati Reds right fielder Jay Bruce has been named National League player of the week for the period ending August 14.

Bruce led the majors with 15 RBI, a 1.120 slugging percentage and 28 total bases in seven games last week. He batted .440 and his five home runs tied for the most in baseball.

The 24-year-old also captured this award in late May.

Other notable performances included Philadelphia first baseman Ryan Howard, Braves second baseman Dan Uggla, who had his hitting streak snapped at an Atlanta-record 33 games on Sunday, Arizona right fielder Justin Upton and Pittsburgh hurler Charlie Morton.
