The Philadelphia Phillies got back to 4 to avoid being swept in a three-game series.

The victory snapped the Phillies' season-high eight-game losing streak,

Hunter Pence belted a two-run homer and a triple among his three hits, Jimmy Rollins had three hits and Carlos Ruiz went 4-for-4 with two RBI for the National League East champions.

NL Cy Young candidate Roy Halladay (19-6) tossed six scoreless innings and gave up only four hits.

"It's nice to go in [to the playoffs] on a strong finish, even though that doesn't always determine how things are going to work out, but to be able to go in and feel good, I'm happy with that," Halladay said.

Ronny Paulino smacked a home run, Jason Pridie had three hits and Justin Turner chipped in with an RBI double for the Mets, who had their three-game winning streak halted.

Mike Pelfrey (7-13) was hammered in three innings of work, giving up nine runs on five hits.

"I have to get the ball down," Pelfrey said. "When the ball is down, it doesn't go out."

Philadelphia jumped out in front in its first at-bat when Rollins led off the game with a solid single into left and Pence followed by crushing a Pelfrey offering over the wall in right for a 2-0 lead. Ryan Howard singled and moved to third on a double by Shane Victorino before trotting home on a sacrifice fly by Raul Ibanez.

Ruiz began the Phillies next at-bat with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Halladay and went to third on a groundout by Rollins before scoring on a single by Chase Utley.

An RBI double by Placido Polanco in the third made it a 5-0 game.

The Phillies plated four runs in the fourth to make it 9-0 on RBI singles by Pence and Howard, and a two-run single by Ruiz.

New York threatened in the sixth when Jason Pridie doubled to leadoff the frame and Jose Reyes singled two batters later. Willie Harris then walked to load the bases with two outs, but the Mets were unable to dent Halladay's armor, as he struck out Nick Evans swinging to end the inning.

The Mets picked up three runs in the seventh when Paulino drilled a two-run homer off Phils reliever Antonio Bastardo and pinch-hitter Val Pascucci knocked home Pridie with a single to make it 9-3.

The Mets added another run in the eighth on an RBI double by Turner to account for the final score.
