WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A person familiar with the situation says Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe is resigning.
The person spoke to The Associated Press Monday on condition of anonymity because the school had yet to announce Grobe's decision. Wake Forest has scheduled a news conference for Monday afternoon.
The 61-year-old Grobe was 77-82 in 13 years at Wake Forest and shares the program record for coaching victories with D.C. "Peahead" Walker.
He was the AP national coach of the year in 2006 after leading Wake Forest to its first Atlantic Coast Conference championship since 1970, a school-record 11 wins and a berth in the Orange Bowl.
The Demon Deacons have struggled recently and wrapped up their fifth straight losing season last weekend with a 23-21 defeat at Vanderbilt.
