New England Patriots defensive back Alfonzo Dennard was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 24 months of probation for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest in April 2012.

Dennard's jail sentence will begin on March 1, 2014, following the 2013 NFL season. He will also have to do 100 hours of community service that will be "law-enforcement related."

The sentence stems from an incident last April outside a bar in Lincoln, just days before the NFL Draft.

The Patriots selected Dennard in the seventh round of the 2012 draft. As a rookie, the Nebraska product registered 35 tackles and three interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. He started seven of the 10 regular-season games he played, and also appeared in both of New England's playoff games.
