Anatoly Bose scored 22 points to lead Nicholls State to a 66-48 win over Texas-Arlington in the Southland Conference opener for both teams Saturday.

The Colonels (7-5) jumped out to a 16-4 lead and led by at least eight the rest of the way. Nicholls State shot 54.5 percent in the first half (12 of 22) and led 32-17 at halftime.

Bose hit a 3 with 11:37 left in the second half to extend the Colonels' lead to 49-28 — their largest lead of the game.

The Mavericks (6-8) shot 70.6 percent after halftime, but they only attempted 17 shots and were never able to mount a comeback.

LaMarcus Reed was the only player in double figures for Texas-Arlington with 15 points. The Mavericks finished 18 of 29 from the field (62.1 percent).

Fred Hunter scored 18 and Kellan Carter added 12 for the Colonels, who scored 32 points off of 31 Mavericks' turnovers.
