Foxborough, MA – The New England Revolution signed defender Florian Lechner on a free transfer from Germany's Karlsruher SC, the club announced on Wednesday.
Lechner, 31, made 12 league appearances for Karlsruher in the second half of last season after spending the majority of his career with FC St. Pauli, where he appeared in more than 100 games since his arrival in 2004.
"We believe Florian will be a solid addition to our defensive corps and he adds versatility and depth to that group," Revs general manager Michael Burns said. "We were pleased with how Flo adapted to MLS' style of play and how he interacted with our players when we was with us in Tucson during preseason."
The German began his career with Stuttgart's academy program before making over 60 appearances for the club's reserve team.
