St. Louis, MO – Southern Illinois running back Jewel Hampton and South Dakota State quarterback Austin Sumner headline the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer Team announced on Tuesday.
Hampton was named the Newcomer of the Year after he led the MVFC with 17 rushing touchdowns and totaled 1,121 yards on 230 carries.
Sumner was named the Freshman of the Year. He set an MVFC freshman record with 2,382 passing yards, leading the conference with an average of 238.2 yards per game. He threw 16 touchdown passes and nine interceptions.
