Canadian Tour rookie Nate McCoy posted a 7-under 65 on Friday to stay atop the leaderboard after the second round of the Syncrude Boreal Open.

McCoy, the first-round leader, finished 36 holes at 12-under 132 and is three shots clear at Fort McMurray Golf Club.

Cory Renfrew fired an 8-under 64 on Friday and vaulted into second place at minus-9.

Dan Buchner and Roger Sloan both carded rounds of 4-under 68 in round two and share third at 7-under 137.

McCoy started on the 10th tee Friday and birdied his first two holes. He parred his last seven holes of his opening nine, but caught fire on the second side.

McCoy birdied the first and third holes, then tallied birdies at five, seven and eight to reach 12-under and move three clear of the field.

McCoy has made the cut in both of his starts prior to this week. His best finish was a tie for 47th last week at the ATB Financial Classic.

Daniel Im (66), Matt Hill (66) and Andrew Roque (69) are tied for fifth place at 6-under 138.

Nick Taylor (69), Jae Woo Im (70), Kent Eger (70), David Dragoo (66), Micah Burke (64), Lucas Lee (69) and Joe Panzeri (70) are knotted in eighth at minus-5.

NOTES: Defending champion Danny Sahl shot a 1-over 73 and fell into a tie for 28th at 2-under par...The 36-hole cut fell at 1-over 145 and last week's winner Michael Gligic missed the mark.
