The Dallas Mavericks signed point guard Derek Fisher on Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fisher, 38, spent parts of last season with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Over 16 seasons, Fisher has won five NBA titles in two separate stints with the Lakers (1996-2004, 2007-2012), and has also made stops in Golden State (2004-2006) and Utah (2006-2007).

"I think he can really help our situation with experience, defensively and really in all aspects of the game," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said about Fisher after Wednesday's loss to the Chicago Bulls.

The Arkansas-Little Rock product was dealt to the Rockets last season, but took a buyout and later signed with the Western Conference-champion Thunder.

Over 1,173 career games, Fisher has averaged 8.6 points and 3.1 assists per game.

Dallas waived forward Troy Murphy to make room on the roster for Fisher.

Murphy has averaged 4.6 points and 3.5 rebounds over 14 games (one start) with the Mavs this season.
