Sampdoria has signed striker Maxi Lopez on a season-long loan deal from Catania.

Lopez spent part of last season on loan at AC Milan, but after the Rossoneri opted not to make the move permanent, a number of Serie A clubs showed interest in the 28-year-old.

A statement from Sampdoria read: "An agreement between Sampdoria and Catania has been reached. The deal will be formalized once the player passes a medical. Maxi Lopez will move from Catania to Sampdoria on a temporary basis."

The Argentine striker tallied two goals in eight Serie A matches during his loan spell at Milan, which finished second to Juventus last term.
