The Tennessee Titans have named Jake Locker the starting quarterback for their season opener on September 9 against the New England Patriots.

The 24-year-old Locker got the nod over veteran Matt Hasselbeck.

Locker, the eighth overall pick in the 2011 draft, saw action in five games off the bench during his rookie season. The Washington product completed 34-of-66 passes for 542 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Hasselbeck threw for more than 3,500 yards while leading the Titans to a 9-7 record in his first season in Nashville.
