Lazio moved into second place in the Serie A table on Saturday, edging Sampdoria 1-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Hernanes scored the lone goal of the match, scoring just after the half-hour mark to lift Lazio to a second straight victory and see the club extend its unbeaten run in league play to seven games.

Lazio improves to 36 points to jump ahead of Inter Milan. It heads into Italy's winter break eight points adrift of first-place Juventus, which claimed a 3-1 win over Cagliari on Friday.

Sampdoria has lost three league matches in a row to remain stuck on 17 points.

Roma 4, AC Milan 2

Rome, Italy - Roma got back to winning ways in convincing fashion, thrashing AC Milan, 4-2, at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

The home side found itself three goals up inside the opening half-hour as Nicolas Burdisso, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo and Erik Lamela chipped in with a goal apiece.

Lamela helped extend Roma's lead just after the hour mark before his side was reduced to 10 men through the 77th-minute sending off of Marquinhos. Milan took advantage and bagged two goals in the final four minutes through Giampaolo Pazzini and Bojan Krkic, but there was not enough time to complete the comeback.

Roma improves to 32 points to go five points clear of Milan.

Inter Milan 1, Genoa 1

Milan, Italy - Inter Milan dropped to fourth place on Saturday, settling for a point in a 1-1 draw with Genoa at the San Siro.

Ciro Immobile thought he had won the match for Genoa with a goal in the 77th minute, but Esteban Cambiasso struck eight minutes later to see the two sides finish level at a goal apiece.

Inter Milan drops two spots in favor of Lazio and Fiorentina, sitting fourth in Italy's top flight with 35 points. Genoa remains second from bottom despite improving to 14 points.

Fiorentina 3, Palermo 0

Palermo, Italy - Fiorentina cruised to a 3-0 defeat of Palermo at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on Saturday to climb to third place in Serie A.

Stevan Jovetic played a starring role in the win, scoring five minutes after halftime and doubling the lead from the penalty spot seven minutes from time. Gonzalo added a third for the visitors, scoring from the penalty spot in the 89th minute.

Fiorentina improves to 35 points while Palermo remains in the relegation zone on 15 points.

Napoli 2, Siena 0

Siena, Italy - Napoli left it late but still managed to get three points as the club battled to a 2-0 win over Siena at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Saturday.

The two sides were level until the 86th minute when Christian Maggio broke the deadlock, and Edinson Cavani put the result beyond any doubt by converting a penalty kick in the 90th minute. Siena was left no way back when Emanuele Calaio was sent off in stoppage time.

The win snaps a two-game slide for Napoli, which climbs to 34 points on the season. Siena stays bottom of the league on 11 points.

Torino 2, Chievo 0

Turin, Italy - Torino grabbed two goals inside the opening half-hour at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino on Saturday to earn a 2-0 win over Chievo.

Gennaro Sardo gifted the home side the lead in the 12th minute when he turned the ball into his own net, but it was Alessandro Gazzi's strike in the 26th that left no way back for Chievo.

Torino gets its fourth win of the season to climb to 19 points, two points shy of Chievo.

Atalanta 1, Udinese 1

Bergamo, Italy - Atalanta and Udinese exchanged goals seven minutes apart in the first half to split the points in a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia on Saturday.

Luis Muriel opened the scoring for Udinese in the 33rd minute, but German Denis' penalty five minutes before the break helped ensure a point for the home side.

Udinese climbs to 24 points, remaining two points ahead of Atalanta.

Parma 2, Bologna 1

Bologna, Italy - Parma surrendered a lead but quickly overturned it in a 2-1 defeat of Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara on Saturday.

Frederik Sorensen's 54th-minute strike was canceled out just two minutes later by Jamie Valdes, and Nicola Sansone scored within 10 minutes to help Parma to a second straight win.

Parma climbs to eighth place with 26 points while Bologna sits 14th in the table on 18 points.
