Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeff Carter netted the game-winner 28 seconds into overtime to give the Los Angeles Kings a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.
Mike Richards controlled the puck at the point and ripped a shot on goal. Carter was there to redirect the disc for the game-winning tally.
Carter finished with two goals and Dustin Brown add a pair of goals for the Kings, who had dropped back-to-back games entering the contest. Jonathan Quick stopped 22 shots in the victory.
"Obviously it wasn't as clean as we wanted, but we got the job done," Brown said. "It's important for us to get these two points, and now we have to focus on the next two."
Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Bobby Ryan and Milan Michalek scored one goal apiece for the Senators, who fell to 1-0-2 on the season.
Craig Anderson made 28 saves in the setback.
Brown scored his first goal of the season 6:39 into the game. After LA killed off a power play, Brown exited the box, corralled a loose puck and deposited it into the back of the net.
Carter added a goal six minutes later on the power play. After a series of shots were turned away by Anderson, Carter handled a loose puck and sent it into the net for an early 2-0 advantage.
Brown's power play tally with 2:05 left in the opening frame gave the Kings a 3-0 lead. Carter skated in from the left boards and centered the puck to Brown just outside the crease, and LA's captain pounded it home.
Pageau took a pass from Erik Condra as he crashed the net and fired a slap shot past Quick 6:06 into the second to make it a 3-1 game.
Ryan's power play marker early in the third cut the Sens deficit to one goal. Ryan took an Erik Karlsson pass on the right wing, skated in and fired a snap shot past Quick for his first goal of the season.
Michalek tied the game with just under 4 1/2 minutes remaining. Michalek corralled a loose puck in front of the net and quickly unleashed a wrister over Quick's shoulder to tie the game.
Ottawa had a chance to take the lead a minute later, but Quick made two diving saves to keep the tie intact.
"I think it's great anytime you go on the road and get a point," Sens head coach Paul MacLean said. "I think we should be pretty pleased with what we're doing."

Carter has scored in three of the first four games of the season for LA ... The Kings, who were 3-for-10 on the power play entering the game, went 2-for-6 and killed off three of Ottawa's four power-play chances ... The Kings are 42-9-10 all-time when Richards records a point. He had two assists on Wednesday ... Dan Carcillo made his debut with the Kings ... Joe Corvo had a pair of assist for Ottawa.
