Diego Kapelan had 14 points and scored the go-ahead basket with 1:24 left to boost McNeese State over Lamar 78-76 Wednesday night.

Stephan Martin also scored 14 for the Cowboys (10-5, 2-0 Southland), who have won four of five. P.J. Alawoya had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, Patrick Richard added 13 points and C.J. Collins had 10.

Kendrick Harris scored 15 for the Cardinals (7-8, 1-1). Brandon Davis added 14, Orlando Brazier 12 and Tremell Adams 11.

Lamar's Mike James, SLC Player of the Week after scoring a school-record 52 points against Louisiana College, was held to four.

The Cardinals led by nine in the second half, but the Cowboys chipped away until two free throws by Collins tied it at 73 with 2:55 left.

After Lamar had gone up 76-75, Kapelan sank his crucial jumper. Alawoya added a late free throw for the final margin.
