Isles D Hamonic heads to injured reserve

In a move that is hardly surprising, the New York Islanders placed defenseman Travis Hamonic on injured reserve Friday thanks to a broken nose and other facial injuries.

Hamonic hasn't played since February 4, when he took a slap shot to the face from Buffalo Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff. He is scheduled to miss at least two weeks while recovering,

The 21-year-old has posted a goal and 11 assists in 51 games this season.

In addition, the Isles recalled goaltender Kevin Poulin from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis. The move was necessary as Evgeni Nabokov was felled by flu-like symptoms and missed a scheduled start on Thursday in St. Louis.

Poulin, 21, went 1-2-0 with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage in three previous starts this season for New York.
