Pittsburgh Penguins All-Star center Sidney 11 season.

Crosby took a hit from Tampa Bay's Victor Hedman in a game on January 5 and did not play the rest of the year.

A report surfaced on Sunday that said Crosby was still suffering from effects of the concussion and that he would not be ready when the team opens its regular season on October 6 at Vancouver.

He has been training on a regular basis this summer, without physical contact, and Penguins general manager Ray Shero expects to seek medical clearance for Crosby a week prior to the start of training camp.

"I think he's had some symptoms on and off depending on how hard he's pushed himself and he's pushed himself pretty hard this summer," said Shero. "He's never had to get to the point where he's had to shut himself down. We'll see a month from now when training camp begins and see where he is going to be."

Crosby, the former MVP and first overall pick of the 2005 draft, has totaled 215 goals and 357 assists over 412 games with the Penguins. He has added 30 goals and 52 assists over 62 playoff games and won a Stanley Cup in 2009.
