Candreva's late PK sinks Cagliari

Rome, Italy – Antonio Candreva's 86th-minute penalty kick handed Lazio a 2-1 comeback win over Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday, moving the home side to within five points of Serie A leaders Juventus.

Cagliari had lost its last five games ahead of Saturday's match, and despite being outplayed for the large majority of the contest, managed to take a 1-0 lead into the final 15 minutes after a goal from Marco Sau.

Hernanes struck the crossbar in the first half for Lazio and Miroslav Klose rounded goalkeeper Michael Agazzi but rolled his shot wide of the empty net to keep the match scoreless.

Sau scored in the 62nd minute on the turn to put Cagliari ahead against the run of play, but Abdoulay Konko equalized for the hosts in the 79th when he volleyed home a flicked header from Giuseppe Biava.

The difference came four minutes from time when Klose broke through on goal and lobbed the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper, who crashed into Klose and handed Lazio a penalty kick.

Agazzi was given a second yellow card and second-choice goalkeeper Vlada Avramov came off the bench but couldn't keep out the spot kick from Candreva.

Catania 0, Torino 0

Catania, Italy - Catania and Torino played out a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Massimino on Saturday despite Catania playing most of the match with 10 men.

The red card came after 13 minutes when Catania's Francesco Lodi lashed out in retaliation against Torino's Riccardo Meggiorin, earning an early dismissal.

But despite its numerical disadvantage, it was Catania that generated the best chance of the match when Mariano Izco went down under a challenge from Torino's Giuseppe Vives, earning his team a penalty kick.

However, Gonzalo Bergessio failed to convert the opportunity when he saw his effort crash against the crossbar.
