Boston sends Victorino to DL again

Boston, MA ( - For the second time in 2015, the Boston Red Sox have placed outfielder Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list.

On Sunday, the BoSox shelved the two-time World Series winner due to a left calf strain. Victorino previously was sidelined with a right hamstring strain and hit the DL on April 25.

The 34-year-old has batted .255 in 20 games for the Red Sox thus far. Victorino was limited to 30 games in 2014 due to hamstring and back injuries and underwent surgery on his back in August.

To fill the roster spot, the Sox selected the contract of infielder Jeff Bianchi from Triple-A Pawtucket. Bianchi spent the previous three seasons in Milwaukee, and hit .302 in 17 games this season for the PawSox.

Boston also placed pitcher Anthony Varvaro on the 15-day DL due to a right flexor strain. That move is retroactive to April 29.
