Beltre named AL Player of the Month

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was named American League Player of the Month for September.

Beltre capped another solid season by hitting .374 with four doubles, 12 home runs, 21 runs scored and 29 RBI over 23 games for the AL West champions.

The 32-year-old native of the Dominican Republic tore up the opposition, leading the majors in homers, runs batted in and slugging percentage (.800) during the season's final month.

Beltre finished the year with a 10-game hitting streak, during which he batted .381 with seven homers and 14 RBI. All told, the 14-year veteran finished his first campaign in Texas with a .296 average, 32 homers, 33 doubles and 105 RBI in 124 games.

Other players considered for the award were Beltre's Rangers teammates Ian Kinsler and Mike Napoli, Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera and Boston Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury.
