Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oakland Athletics officially announced on Wednesday the signing of pitcher Scott Kazmir to a two-year contract.
A rebound season netted Kazmir the deal that is reportedly worth $22 million.
Injuries and mechanical issues derailed his career. After making just one start in the majors in 2011 and pitching the 2012 season in the independent Atlantic League, Kazmir made 29 starts for the Cleveland Indians last season. He finished with a 10-9 record and a 4.04 earned run average.
Kazmir was drafted by the New York Mets in the first round of the 2002 draft. Traded to Tampa Bay two years later, the left-hander earned two All-Star nods and won 55 games in five-plus seasons with the Rays before being dealt to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in August 2009.
The Angels released him on June 15, 2011.
For his career, the 29-year-old Kazmir is 76-70 with a 4.16 ERA in 209 games, all but one of which are starts.
