Conan O’Brien’s historic trip to Cuba aired as an 80-minute special on Wednesday, featuring the late-night host meeting the people of Havana and attempting to make some friends — and get some laughs — along the way.

O’Brien — clad in a white linen suit and straw fedora — assembled a makeshift set with a cafe table, microphone and Cuban band in a Havana street to open the show, but his best moments came when he was interacting with the locals and trying his hand at being Cuban.

Conan gets drunk at a rum museum

O’Brien’s first stop is the Havana Club Rum Museum to learn how the Cuban liquor is made. But the host turns out to be way more interested in getting drunk than soaking up history (much to the chagrin of his tour guide).

Conan reports on the sunset for CNN

The TBS show may not have tipped off its Time Warner bosses about the Cuba trip, but that’s not to say there was no corporate synergy. While admiring the sunset from a rooftop in central Havana, O’Brien imagines how CNN (also owned by Time Warner) would report on the dog barking on a nearby roof — complete with overenthusiastic graphics.

Conan tries to dance

Some of O’Brien’s best bits are his physical comedy, and he doesn’t disappoint here while attempting to get his 6-foot-4 frame to dance the erotic rumba. Then, he shows off his new moves at a nightclub.

Conan ad-libs a salsa song

The Harvard-educated host put his eighth-grade Spanish to use singing with a Cuban salsa band, where he wows with nonsensical lyrics like “I am Nutella” and “men have libraries.”

Conan (unsuccessfully) rolls a cigar

O’Brien got a look at the La Corona cigar factory, where 400 employees hand-roll 25,000 cigars a day. But he’s unlikely to be their next hire — his hilariously bad attempt at making a cigar earns the disbelief of the Cubans.
