Toyota Getting Down N' Dirty
Fox Car Report checks out the new Toyota TRD Pro series Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner at the Chicago AAuto Show
Chicago – Toyota is looking to leverage its off-road racing success with a new line of trucks designed for high-speed fun.
The TRD Pro Series versions of the Tundra and Tacoma pickups and 4Runner SUV unveiled at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show are loaded with goodies from the Toyota Racing Development parts bin and look ready to drive straight out of the showroom and into the desert.
Their suspensions have been lifted by as much as 2-inches and fitted with softer springs and remote reservoir Bilstein shocks to better handle rough terrain. Front skid plates are also added along with off-road tires and black wheels, with beadlock-style rims on the Tacoma.
The engines have been left alone, but the Tundra and Tacoma each feature TRD reduced pressure exhaust systems.
All three trucks get aggressive bodykits with the “Toyota” name displayed prominently on the grille, bringing to mind not only some of the company’s classic trucks, but also aping the style of the Ford F-150 Raptor SVT, their only direct competition in the market today.
Prices have not yet been announced, but the TRD Pro Series goes on sale this fall.
