Just in time for the Ford GT's return to racing this season, Superformance's limited GT40 MKII 50th Anniversary edition lets you commemorate the famous racecar's victory in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Superformance will build just 20 of these striking GT40 MKII 50th Anniversary editions, and they'll all use a right-hand-drive layout with a right-hand shift setup like the Le Mans racers. As with the company's standard GT40 MKII replicas, these cars are about as close as you can get to the real thing because 90 percent of the parts are interchangeable with the original, including the steel monocoque. However, there are a few modern luxuries for added comfort like air conditioning and an adjustable pedal box. Superformance urges customers to fit these machines with a specially prepared Shelby aluminum-block 427 FE V8 engine, which comes with its own Anniversary badging. The mill also earns the vehicles a place on the Shelby registry.
One of these exacting GT40 replicas will be on display during the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ, on January 27. Superformance spokesperson Luke Walsh tells Autoblog the rolling chassis will cost $169,995, and it will be about $50,000 to $60,000 more to purchase and install the drivetrain. Customers will be able to choose their favorite look among the Shelby-American team's classic racers from the '66 race, including Bruce McLaren's black with silver stripes, Ken Miles' blue with white stripes, and Dan Gurney's red with white stripes.
