Updated

Rick Simon, your new truck is here.

Ram has unveiled its 2017 Power Wagon heavy duty off-road pickup with a new look that includes a graphics package that hearkens back to the 1979 “Macho” Power Wagon driven by Gerald McRaney’s character in the classic TV detective show “Simon and Simon.”

Along with the vertical bedside stripes, the Power Wagon now sports a black, snout-like grille just like the one on the smaller Ram 1500 Rebel, black metal bumpers and front skid plate, and RAM lettering across the tailgate that’s big enough to read from space.

Standard seats feature synthetic upholstery embossed with the tread pattern from the Power Wagon’s 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, while leather is optional. The overall look of the interior is toughened up with iron grey metallic-painted trim.

The Power Wagon comes with a 410 hp 6.4-liter Hemi V8 under its bulging hood, Ram’s “articulink” front suspension with detachable sway bar for extreme off-roading, front and rear locking differentials, 14.3 inches of log-hopping ground clearance, and a 12,000-pound Warn winch with 125 feet of cable.

But while the Power Wagon is only offered as a Crew Cab, in either full regalia or in toned-down Tradesman trim, Ram is adding a new off-road package to its wider 2500 lineup that includes fender flares, tow hooks, Bilstein shocks, transfer case skid plate, 18- or 20-inch all-terrain wheel and tire packages, an "anti-spin" rear differential, and hill-descent control.

Unlike the Power Wagon, the package can also be combined with the 2500’s 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine or 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in long and short wheelbase Crew Cab and Mega Cab trucks dressed in any trim from Tradesman to Limited.

Both the Power Wagon and 4x4 package will be available later this year. Prices have not yet been revealed, but the 2016 Power Wagon starts at $51,410.

Unfortunately, Ram has not confirmed the availability of the epic wrecker bumper from Rick’s truck in the Mopar catalog.
