Bill Estes Chevrolet
Late Wednesday night, an Indianapolis 500 pace car was stolen from a Chevrolet dealership in Zionsville, Indiana, reports FOX59.
Police say the suspect – described as a white male with glasses and no shirt – drove the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, with the top down, through the glass front door and down a flight of stairs. The Camaro was badly damaged and was subsequently abandoned, with the suspect believed to have fled on foot.
The incident took place at the Bill Estes Chevrolet dealership on 96th Street in Zionsville just before midnight Wednesday night.
Police searched the area until 5 a.m. local time, when the search was called off. They are asking anyone who sees suspicious activity nearby to call 911. They add that the suspect may be injured after driving the car through the glass door.
The car was one of 100 Camaro pace cars set to take to the track at the 2015 Indianapolis 500, Zak Estes, Digital Director of Bill Estes Chevrolet, told FOXSports.com. The car is currently undriveable, and it remains to be seen if it can be repaired.
