Chinese tech giant LeEco has unveiled a striking concept previewing a new electric car that could potentially rival the Tesla Motors Model S or its successor.
The concept is called the LeSee, short for Le Super Electric Ecosystem, and it was unveiled this week during a press conference held by LeEco to address its recent name change and present its latest products which range from online video streaming to smartphones to, now it seems, cars.
LeEco, formerly Letv, is no fly-by-nighter. The company is the brainchild of Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting and is the backer of American electric car startup Faraday Future, which earlier this year rolled out a 1,000-horsepower electric supercar conceptand this month started work on a car plant in Nevada. LeEco is also working with Aston Martin to develop electric car technology and infotainment systems.
LeEco plans to formerly introduce the LeSee at next week’s 2016 Beijing Auto Show. Full details are yet to be released but we know the concept features an electric powertrain and autonomous driving capability. Top speed is said to be approximately 130 mph.
At its press conference, LeEco’s Yueting summoned the LeSee by simply speaking into his phone. After a quick showing, Yueting then ordered the car to return and park itself.
Further details will be released as we approach the April 25 opening day of the Beijing Auto Show. To learn about some of the other vehicles set to appear, head to our dedicated hub.
