It’s been 25 years, but Buick is finally dropping its top again.
The 2016 Cascada is the company’s first convertible since the 1991 Reatta.
The slick-looking 2+2 is a reboot of a model from General Motors’ Opel division that’s already on sale in Europe, but updated for the United States.
It’s powered by a small, but potent 200 hp 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine driving the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, and features 2+2 seating. A soft-top roof design allows it to have a large trunk for a convertible, whether the roof is up or down, and can be opened at speeds up to 31 mph. The rear seatbacks can also be folded down to create a cargo shelf.

It uses the HiPer Strut suspension design shared with Buick’s sportiest models to improve handling, and has roll bars that pop up behind the rear seat passengers’ heads in the event of a rollover accident.
Pricing and fuel economy information for the Cascada will be released closer to its release date in about one year.
