It’s a top-down car designed from the bottom up.

Chevrolet has unveiled its upcoming Corvette Z06 convertible ahead of its public debut at the New York International Auto Show.

Chevy says the car’s aluminum chassis was designed from the outset to be a convertible, and in open-top form it is 20 percent stiffer than the last generation Z06 coupe. As such, no heavy structural reinforcements were required.

The convertible features all of the same performance gear as the hardtop, including a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with at least 625 hp, a choice of seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions, and GM’s magnetically-controlled active suspension system.

Pricing has not been announced, but the Corvette Z06 convertible is expected to go on sale early next year.
