A plainclothes NYPD detective berated and cursed at an Uber driver in an incident that was captured on video by the car's passenger in New York City Monday.
The video shows the detective yelling and cursing at the driver. Both men got into an argument after the detective failed to use his blinker when he was parking his car, the passenger told MyFoxNY.com. The driver drove around him, honked his horn and gestured at the detective to use his blinker.
The detective immediately began to scream at the driver, mocking his accent and broken English.
Uber said no one knew the man was a detective because he was not wearing a uniform, he was driving an unmarked car and he did not identify himself as a member of the NYPD when he approached the Uber driver’s car.
The Uber driver was not given a ticket, but has filed a complaint with the NYPD about the incident. Internal affairs and the civilian complaint review board are also investigating.
"The behavior in the video is wrong and unacceptable and we appreciate the NYPD investigating the incident,” Uber said in a statement.
The detective would face administrative prosecution if he is believed to be in the wrong.
