NEW YORK – Lawyers for Palestinian authorities say victims of terror attacks in Israel more than a decade ago are not entitled to boost a $218 million jury award to more than a billion dollars.
Attorneys for the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority filed papers in Manhattan federal court late Monday. They're challenging a proposal that the final award be enlarged to $1.15 billion.
A federal jury last month awarded $218 million to victims after concluding the Palestinian groups were behind attacks in the early 2000s that killed and wounded Americans.
The jury found the Palestinian entities liable in attacks that killed 33 people and wounded hundreds more.
Lawyers for Palestinians say the award should not include interest accrued before the verdict. Lawyers for attack victims say it should.
