A fired college professor has been sentenced to 16 years to life in prison for strangling his wife and taking her body to an upstate New York park because it was her favorite place.

Timothy Wells apologized during Friday morning's sentencing to killing his wife last Nov. 30.

He admitted last month he strangled 58-year-old Christine Sevilla (seh-VEE'-yuh) at their home in the Rochester suburb of Perinton. He put her body in the trunk of his car and drove to a park south of Rochester.

Authorities say the distraught 57-year-old later called 911 and said he had killed his wife.

Wells was an associate professor who taught computing and information sciences courses at Rochester Institute of Technology. Sevilla was a photographer and environmental activist who had also taught at RIT.
