Detroit police chief: Speeding driver fleeing officers strikes 6 people, killing 2 children

Detroit police say a speeding driver who was fleeing police struck and killed two children and injured three other children and an adult.

Police Chief James Craig tells reporters that police began chasing a car with a firearms suspect inside Wednesday evening but later backed off. Craig says the car then struck the children and an adult on the city's east side.

Craig says the six victims were taken to St. John Hospital, where two of the children were declared dead.

Craig says police arrested two people from the car. One had injuries that were not life-threatening.

The police chief says one of the suspects had a handgun.
