MARTINEZ, Calif. – A defendant in the gang rape of a 16-year-old Northern California girl outside a high school dance has pleaded guilty as part of a deal with prosecutors.
The Contra Costa Times reports (http://bit.ly/LpRhEx) that 26-year-old Elvis Torrentes entered the plea to one count of sexual penetration of an intoxicated person during a hearing in a Contra Costa County courtroom on Thursday. He will serve six years in prison.
Authorities said the girl was beaten, robbed and sexually abused by numerous men over two hours outside the dance at Richmond High School in 2009. Police discovered her heavily intoxicated, partially nude and unconscious under a picnic table.
Torrentes was among six defendants in the case. Four others have been convicted, and the fifth has yet to be tried.
