A Texas mother was forced to throw her frightened toddler into the arms of her husband waiting below during an early morning apartment fire Tuesday.

Britta Ross explained how her husband Justin threw the couple's mattress over the balcony railing and then jumped onto it from their apartment.

He then told her to drop their 2-year-old daughter Lena into his arms.

"Throwing the baby was terrifying," said Britta Ross. "I'm so glad he caught her, and I'm so glad the neighbors made it out okay."

The Arlington fire department began receiving 911 calls from the three-story complex at 2300 Hollowridge Lane just before 6 a.m.

When they arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the first and second floors.

Three people were taken to the hospital with injuries from jumping from their balconies, including one person who broke a leg.
