Bronx, NY – New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will likely be sidelined for a few days because of a left wrist injury.
Teixeira had been battling soreness in the wrist and left Monday's game against Baltimore after a dive for a ground ball. His left wrist slammed against the ground when he could not brace his fall after a hard-hit ball by Baltimore's J.J. Hardy took a bad hop.
The Yankees sent Teixeira for tests on Tuesday morning and MRI results showed no structural damage. He was diagnosed with inflammation and received a cortisone shot. The team said the veteran will be further evaluated in three days.
Teixeira leads the Yankees with 71 runs batted in and is batting .256 with 20 homers in 98 games.
