(SportsNetwork.com) - Left-hander Travis Wood can continue a rare run of dominance at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night, when the Chicago Cubs host the New York Mets to wrap up a three-game series.
Wood has been stellar on home turf in his last four starts there, winning three decisions and compiling a 2.00 earned run average. Meanwhile, he's dropped four of his last six road decisions while his ERA has soared to 8.04.
He lasted just 2 2/3 innings in his last road start at Milwaukee on Friday.
He's 2-0 in his last three starts against New York with a 2.25 ERA.
The Cubs haven't swept a three-game series at Wrigley Field since July 2012 and haven't done so against the Mets since April 2004. They've won five of their last six at home after going just 7-12 there to start the season.
Chicago won a 5-4 decision in Wednesday's game, thanks to three hits and three runs batted in from Starlin Castro, who'd made a three-run error in the opening inning.
"I just wanted to try and pick up my teammates," Castro said.
New York has managed just two hits in two games with runners in scoring position.
"We're getting guys on so it's not like we're not getting on base," manager Terry Collins said. "We're just not hitting with guys on base, which has been the tune thus far the way we started the season.''
The Mets start rookie right-hander Jacob deGrom for the fifth time in search of win No. 1.
He's gotten just eight runs of support in four previous outings and the New York bullpen has blown two saves in those games, and has surrendered seven runs in 15 innings.
DeGrom got a no-decision against Philadelphia on Saturday after allowing a run in 6 1/3 innings.
On Wednesday, with one out in the fifth, Emilio Bonifacio singled, Justin Ruggiano walked and Anthony Rizzo singled to load the bases. Castro's single up the middle tied the game at 4-4, then Rizzo scored later in the inning on a wild pitch from Jeurys Familia to account for the final margin.
Chicago starter Edwin Jackson (4-5) allowed four runs -- one earned -- on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts to earn the win. The Cubs' bullpen held the Mets to just two hits over the final four innings, with Hector Rondon closing it out for his seventh save of the season.
Dana Eveland (0-1) was charged with the loss in relief of Daisuke Matsuzaka, who surrendered four runs on four hits and five walks over 4 1/3 innings.
The Mets and Cubs split six meetings last season.
