Seventh seed Filippo Volandri was among Tuesday's winners, while fifth-seeded Mikhail Kukushkin went by way of a first-round upset at the clay-court Swedish Open.

The Italian Volandri handled Swedish wild card Michael Ryderstedt 6-4, 6-2, while Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver dismissed the Kazakhstanian Kukushkin 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at Bastad Tennis Stadium. With Ryderstedt's dismissal, there are no more Swedes left in the draw.

Additional Day-2 wins came for Brazil's Joao Souza, Russian qualifier Evgeny Korolev, Portuguese Frederico Gil, Italian qualifier Alessandro Giannessi, and Czech qualifier Ivo Minar.

This week's top seeds are Spanish stars David Ferrer and 2010 champion Nicolas Almagro. The 2007 winner Ferrer was last year's runner-up to Swedish two-time champ Robin Soderling, who is not defending his title this week, and beat Almagro in an all-Spanish finale here in '07.

Ferrer will open his week against Italian Simone Bolelli, while Almagro will take on Minar following an opening-round bye.
