Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Tigers placed starting pitcher Justin Verlander on the 15-day disabled list due to a right triceps strain. The move is retroactive to March 29.
Verlander was placed on the DL for the first time in his career. The Tigers also announced Wednesday they recalled pitcher Kyle Lobstein from Triple-A Toledo.
Lobstein is tentatively scheduled to start on Sunday at Cleveland. Lobstein pitched in seven games, including six as a starter, with the Tigers in 2014 and compiled a 1-2 record with a 4.35 ERA.
The Tigers announced almost a week ago that Verlander would start the season on the disabled list, but they did not make the move official until Wednesday.
The six-time All-Star and 2011 AL Cy Young award winner has been sidelined since leaving a March 27 spring training start against the Blue Jays.
The 32-year-old right-hander has made at least 30 starts in each season since joining the rotation in 2006. He was 15-12 with a 4.54 ERA in 32 starts last year.
